Wheel Balancing And Tyre Life
One of the most common issues that drivers in Melbourne, Ringwood, Bayswater and points in between experience is vibration in the vehicle, often felt through the steering wheel, that gets worse with speed and time. There are a lot of different issues that can cause this, including problems with the suspension or vehicle alignment, but it may also be as simple as the need for wheel balancing.
Why Wheel Balancing is Important
Basically the tyre and the wheel have a uniform dispersal of the weight across the entire combined unit. An imbalance can occur for several reasons including an irregularity in the shape of the tyre or even slight differences in the wheel. For example, the tyre valve stem hole creates an asymmetrical difference that has to compensate for with small weights to make the entire wheel and tyre spin uniformly. Sometimes these weights can fall out or the other factors, such as irregular tyre wear, can come into play that causes the imbalance and creates the thumping motion of the tyre and wheel.
The Fix for Drivers in Melbourne, Ringwood and Bayswater
At Canterbury Tyre & Mag Supamarket we use a balancing machine that centres the tyre and spins it at high rates of speed, equal to that of being on the road. This allows us, through the computer program, to know exactly where to position the weights to bring the tyre and wheel back into balance.
In addition, while wheel balancing, we will also check the tyre for irregular wear, which may be a sign of a bent wheel or tyre damage that may be causing the vibration. If these are the cause of the vibration we have a great selection of wheels and tyres, both new and top quality used, to help you get back out on the road and stay within your budget.
